Environmental Policy

Our mission is to support relevant industries in ensuring protection of the environment by providing sound scientific advice and at the same time minimising our own environmental impact.

Key considerations are as follows:

Continued improvement - With a genuine interest in the environment we consistently look for ways to improve our environment performance, reflecting on past performance and taking advantage of new technologies. In order to ensure improvements are genuinely incorporated into our activities we will review this environmental policy on an annual basis.

Environmental legislation - Solidsense Ltd holds relevant licences for activities which ensure appropriate procedures are upheld (see below). The company staff keep up to take with current legislation through membership of relevant professional bodies (BSSS, CIWM and REA) and associated continued professional development (CPD) activities.

Travel - A key aspect of our work involves travel to waste management facilities, in-house laboratory, external commercial laboratories, industry body / regulator offices. Public transport is used as far as practically possible. Where air travel is required this will be carbon offset. Due to general remote location of waste management facilities, and nature of work required at such facilities, hired or dedicated vehicles as befitting the function will be used to transport equipment and samples appropriately.

Waste Management - Solidsense Ltd follows the principle of reduce, reuse and recycle in respect of the generation of waste. Office generated food waste is composted and reused onsite or added to green waste bins and food caddies for separated council collections. Dry recyclables (paper, cardboard, metal, plastic) is separated and recycled through local licensed facilities. Recycled paper will be used with printing carried out only when absolutely necessary. Printer cartridges will be recycled. For the laboratory, quality reagents are procured to meet technical objectives and typically provide improved longevity. Quantities of reagents are carefully managed to ensure adequate supply and minimise waste. Waste test material is appropriately segregated to comply with waste management regulations and disposed of appropriately.

Subcontractors - Solidsense Ltd work with subcontractors who hold similar values in respecting the environment.
